We drove up from Chattanooga for the night just to go to the Crime museum. We had an absolute blast. We did the VIP experience and I thought the detective feature was a cool way to interact through the museum. The exhibits were awesome. Really cool stuff.
This place is only about a year old. It was still being built during our yearly trip to the smoky mountain area last year. I was so excited to come back and visit. If you are a true - crime lover i highly recommend it. My only complaint is the bathroom situation. There is only 1 public restroom. Located about 3/4ths of the way through the museum. I am the type of person who uses the bathroom immediately at most museums just to ensure I'm not searching for one later. I'm sure they are still working on their setup but by the time I got too the restroom i really had to go and ended up skipping ahead to get to it and had to double back. First world issue I know but just a bit odd to me. People with young children might find this to be a huge inconvenience. Otherwise the place is excellent and seemed much larger when you walk through than it does outside. Everything is very well placed (except the bathroom) and there is a ton to see without it all being on top of itself. Excellent experience. I would definitely return.
Most of the museum is reading plaques on walls or listening to pre recorded messages but there are a few interactive podiums and activities. At the end of the your there is a room of fun activities to take part in. They had a drunk goggle testing area, a cop simulation, a shooting range and what looked like a maze. Very enjoyable experience. The exhibits range from medieval torture devices all the way to 9/11 and even a few more recent crimes.
Great place. But you got to pay 20$ for a picture of you. Which should come with the tour. Never coming back again swear to god. I'll just donate my money to the local law enforcement then come here again
Throughout the museum there were some parts that were more interesting than others. For it to be a museum, I just wished there were more artifacts and less posters and electronic prompt machines. My overall assessment is that this felt more of a fun zone instead of a museum.
I was a bit disappointed that most of the reviews I read were impressively accurate! I still chose to see the museum for myself while visiting TN
Yes, there is lots of reading, it is a museum. And no you shouldn't take small kids, it's a Crime Museum.
I selected the VIP package and felt it was a bit pricey for everything you were able to do. The marketing department and website designer definitely did a great job of selling the awesomeness of the tickets! Unfortunately, the audio wand is not designed for you to hear in a crowded area where others may be talking. The audio tour numbers throughout the exhibits should be a tad bigger. I do not have poor eyesight and I noticed I missed out on a few audio clips. The detective challenge was not much of a challenge to me. It reminds me of something geared more towards children 10+ years old. The heist game could definitely be a little longer, but I was surprised to see an additional pay to play game within the museum! I figure at $34.95/person you should not have to purchase anything additional within the museum(with the exception of the gift shop)! I did love how their locker rentals are only 25¢!!!
